What kind of cartridge is your favourite when it comes to scratching?
- Currently I am using the new Ortofon s120 that has been developed in cooperation with Serato. Thanks to the asymmetrical suspension the needle disposes of a great vertical stability and it really sticks to the groove. A high tracking force is not really necessary with this cartridge which means that my records do not suffer that badly. The sound characteristics are also very nice and the output volume is conveniently high. The bottom line is, in the club this cartridge is an all-round talent for ambitious DJs.
Which characteristics of the RP-6000 turntable are especially felicitous in your opinion?
- First of all it is very comfortable that this turntable does not have to be grounded, this saves stress when hooking up your setup. The signal output as line or phono is compatible with any kind of mixer or amp. This is especially advantageous when you are on tour. The motor is very strong and can easily compete with the Technics motor. Moreover I really dig the extra features such as the adjustable start/stop time, the backward-running function or the quarz lock.
Can you spontaneously tell me your favourite track?
- The other day in the car I was listening to “Regulate” by Warren G. at 35 degrees. That felt really awesome.
You are a triple ITF World Champion. Are you aspiring the next ITF champion title?
- For the time being I am concentrating on my live performances. This way I reach a bigger target audience and I am able to present my style to more people. At the moment the contests are not very interesting to me, but I am constantly working on new sets and I can imagine myself stirring up the scene once more ;-).
Which novelties can you barely wait to try?
- Currently I am mainly interested in MIDI controllers for digital DJing. Moreover I am working with live samplers and therefore I really enjoy any button I can punch. I am pretty sure that we can expect loads of new stuff in the future.
Where and when will it be possible to enjoy your turntable techniques?
- Well, on June 10th you can see me in Cracow. I am going to be a judge at the Polish IDA championships. Also I am going to perform a showcase and play a club set there. Apart from that I am going to attend an event series at Tenerife and play loads of shows in Germany. The exact dates can be found on my agency's website www.next-level-berlin.com.
